analog pedals, built by hand

I have designed, soldered, drilled, painted, and tested all these pedals by hand. They have been made with the utmost precision, care, and a deep love for the absurd possibilities of sound and music.

The Harsh Hands Octave Driver is a more than just an overdrive, it’s a dual gain stage vintage Amp-in-a-Box with a foot-switchable transformer based octave up. The Dirt knob is the first gain stage with a silicon diode clipping amp; the Clean knob is the second gain stage with a clean boost that has some grit. The mids knob is an active tilt eq, counterclockwise from center is a mid cut, clockwise from center is a mid boost. With no gain engaged and the mids knob centered, you’ve got a pretty scooped vintage amp sound.

Stage 2 is going to add in some beefy mild tube breakup to your signal, crank it and you’re sounding pretty bluesy. If you want to start getting dirty, juice up gain stage 1 for some gnarly clipped drive. Drive both gain stages for some seriously heavy drive, getting into fuzz/distortion territory, switch on the octave and unlock screeching hot octave up tones. Blend the gains to experiment with a wide range of drive that gets into fuzz territory when both are cranked.

The octave is heard most cleanly when played around the 12 fret of a guitar on a neck or bassier pickup, cut the tone on your guitar to hear even more octave ringing, or play multiple notes at a time to unleash a ring mod traffic jam that’s blended with your driven signal sounding even more chaotic and distorted.

father of fuzz

The Father of Fuzz is a modern flavored fuzz with two basic controls that span a wide range of tonality.

This circuit is designed to directly contrast The Angry Mom vintage fuzz. It’s decked out with more distortion style hard clipping and a Sag control for starving the transistors of voltage to get those edgy 90’s broken failing fuzz tones.

The more you starve the transistors, the more output you need, which is why this pedal can get loud as your father after he finds out you dropped out of college to pursue your dreams of shredding.

the angry mom

The Angry Mom is a vintage style fuzz with a few tricks up its sleeve. Based around a very amped up Fuzz Face topology, you have access to similar Fuzz and Volume controls.

With two voices available, you can play the brighter Voice I which has that classic velcro fuzz tone at higher fuzz settings and quickly reaches full bias fuzz or the darker creamier Voice II which feels cleaner and smoother. The voice switch is very interactive with the fuzz knob, at higher fuzz settings, the 2 voices take on completely different fuzz sounds.

Switch on the Juice and unlock a second pre-fuzz gain stage to take your fuzz over the top.

The other room

The Other Room is a unique speaker distorter pedal that features a 3 Watt, 3” speaker and a small condenser microphone. This pedal can be so many things all in one: a practice amp for jamming amp tones in your room, a mic’d cab setup for recording huge guitar tones without tons of space or recording gear, a feedbacker, a noisemaker, a unique way to record stereo signals with panned effects, the list really does go on. The more I use it, the more I realize I can accomplish.

The controls are straightforward but highly interactive. The Speaker knob controls the volume of the speaker, which naturally distorts at higher volumes due to the whopping 3 inches it’s carrying. The Mic Out knob is actually the gain for the on board microphone pre-amp. The Fuzz knob tempers the built-in fuzz circuit.

The FDBK switch is where things start to get really interesting, this routes the output of the microphone both to the output of the pedal, as well as the input of the speaker. This is where all the knobs interplay to display a huge range of tonality. The feedback itself ranges from light bits of feedback after you hit a note to full squealing feedback to self-oscillating madness.

The Mortal Coil

The Mortal Coil is a spring reverb pedal like no other. With a small spring tank built right into the pedal, you can produce a rich, washed-out reverb that brings your sound to life. The reverberated signal has a few controls that give you the ability to add anything from subtle ambiance to deep, immersive soundscapes.

You can cut your dry signal to get pure washed out springy goodness or crank up the feedback to get everything from gentle ringing metallic reverb all the way to chaotic self oscillations. Without the reverb signal, the input boost works great as a clean beefy boost to your signal, or you can use it to slam your signal into the springs, causing spring saturation and intense reverb. With tone control over the reverberated signal, you can cut out rumble or cut out noise with bass or treble boosting in a tilt EQ format.

Whether you're looking to add a touch of vintage warmth or drown your tone in lush reverb, the Mortal Coil delivers with character and depth.
